About

Hi! I'm Ping and this is my small corner of the Internet. It's a somewhat neglected patch of bits I'm hoping to finally wrangle into a garden.

Colophon

I got into web development by hand writing HTML pages as a kid in Kuala Lumpur in the early aughts, long before I knew how to actually get them onto the Internet. These days I call brownstone Brooklyn home, and despite stints as a software engineer at places like Square and Stripe, I'm still not sure what the Internet actually is.

This iteration is hosted on Ghost. Previous versions of this site include a high-effort building a whole-ass hosting platform with git-push based deployment and server-side compilation, then low-effort GitHub Pages, and then a medium-effort (this is a lie) custom-built headless CMS. But with the wisdom of age - and feeling personally attacked by this comic - I've settled for fiddling with a custom theme. This time, for sure.

Projects

I love making things. Here's a few projects I'm particularly proud of:

Offline

...you can find me baking and cooking, hosting dinner parties for friends, reading (mainly fiction), tending to my many plants, running in Prospect Park, making shitty ceramics, and finding other hobbies to be terrible at (knitting, and unfortunately for you, writing).

AI

All the writing on this site is generative AI free. I believe there is value in our biological and technological distinctiveness and in finding my own voice. The ensloppification of the Internet saddens me a great deal.

That said, I do use LLMs, but sparingly and only for coding assistance. And even in that case, everything I ever build and share will have been thoroughly reviewed by me (and almost certainly reworked, given the state of things).
